Pickin Boise!

This is our second year attending Pickin’ Boise! (cause its the second year it has existed! Haha) It is a local show at the fairgrounds that features artisan craftsmen as well as antique furniture, pretty much anything that’s super awesome and unique will be there. Hence why WE’RE going:)

THE GOOD:
Last year we brought A TON of stuff! From big to small, colorful to colorless, light to heavy. And heavy again, and heavy one more time. It was an absolute blast! The feel is SO much different than we are used to. We are accustomed to having people walk into our retail location, people who have looked for us and made a conscious decision to come in. At the show, its a competition for attention. Just because someone is relatively near your booth doesn’t mean they’re interested. Its kind of like dating, just because a person makes eye contact with you doesn’t mean they’re interested. But its fine, they probably don’t appreciate pizza and wine as much as you do and you don’t need that in your life.—

We digress. Anyway the show is WILD. There is a hoard of people, all looking for that next unique thing they didn’t know they needed to complete their spaces, and we love being a part of that. Because we truly believe we have some of the coolest and most unique pieces out there, and we stand behind our products 100%. At the show last year, we partnered with Mustache Flats who many of you surely know (visit our “Our Friends” Tab if you don’t) He will also be in attendance with us! We couldn’t be more excited:) Swede, the builder, is a man’s man, standing about 6 foot 9 but has a personality bigger than that, don’t ask us how, just come meet him. His beard is something pulled straight out of the movie “Tombstone” and a bear would be jealous of the paws on this guy. Truly, this man is an artist and having him as one of our largest suppliers means the world to us<3

THE BAD:
Last year we brought like 14 tables, each one weighing about as much as the car in your garage. And we carried each one the length of a football field. (Maybe a Pee-wee league football field but it still counts.) Yeah so we definitely aren’t doing that again. There isn’t enough coffee on this planet to give us the energy to move that many, maybe we just need to change our diet but stop your judging RIGHT NOW. We haven’t decided EXACTLY what pieces to bring, but rest assured, weight will be a criteria;) We have a TON of really cool items we are excited to show you all! The fact that we have amazing consignors who trust us is exactly why we do this. Our purpose is to serve them and our customers, and this is an amazing opportunity to get our name out there at the same time!  So thank you to each of you, our attempt to give all of you the best service we can is our highest goal.

WHAT DOES THIS PICKIN BOISE LOOK LIKE FOR US:
We’ll just come and find out!;) Haha but really, we haven’t completely decided yet, BUT we will have tables (The heavy ones, thanks Tropical Salvage), signs– Idaho ones, metal ones, funny ones. Radios to blast music as loud as they’ll let us, and PLENTY of super unique finds that ONLY We have. The truth is, we haven’t figured out every detail. But we will soon, sometimes the best ideas come from a thought 5 minutes prior. We have learned that having fun is the most important thing, and figuring out every single small detail sometimes isn’t worth the stress. A lot of you say this in the store, “I’ll know it when I see it.” And this will be a similar approach for us. What we DO know is that this is going to be extremely fun, its $7 for both days and we really hope to see you all there:)

Until next time friends

Interior Design Tips and 4 Best Practices

Congratulations! You bought a new house or decided to change things up a bit:)
Umm okay…now what??
NOW comes the design! (Some of you may dread it, but that’s why we’re here!)

Designing the interior of your home WILL be a challenge. There will be times when a spot needs something, but you have no idea what that is. Other times, something you have wont fit. There’s plenty of issues to take care of, so lets begin!

1) Start With a Blank Room

Okay so honestly, none of these are hard and fast rules. We get it, your Grandma had a BEAUTIFUL end table you HAVE to use–and that’s great! Use it. BUT don’t be afraid of getting rid of items you don’t really care about. In fact, get rid of most of it. (Oh hey there we actually do consignment!) Shooing your old furniture and decor out the door is likely going to be the key to success in your new/fresh space. The next step, is to get ONE item you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT! This is designed to be the anchoring piece of your room. It may be a piece of art, a sofa or your grandma’s aforementioned end table. From this, you’ll be able to better envision the room and the direction it needs to go!

2) Be Fearless

Now, we need you to channel your inner Beyonce. You don’t need no man, and you also don’t need no one telling you you can’t add color! You can have a man, thats not what we’re saying, but you SHOULD use color! It can be pops of small warm/cool colors OR you can go crazy with it! (As they did in our top photo). When in doubt go crazy. The above photo shows just about every color in the rainbow, yet it all comes together in a beautiful symphony. Just like Beyonces music. Make sure you get matching colors and disperse them evenly throughout the space. Notice the drapes have the same yellow as the chairs, this is NOT by accident!

If you want to go to the less crazy side, adding pops of color here and there, the rest of your palette needs to remain pretty neutral, we would recommend different shades of grey for obvious reasons. And as before, disperse the colors evenly throughout your space. This will give it a VERY full effect when it comes to color.

3) It Has to Mix

Think about cookies. Well, think about BAKING cookies. Your recipe for the perfect cookie is all of these mixable ingredients. You have Eggs, Sugar, Flour etc. and combined they make an incredible treat that only insane people can’t appreciate. Now, envision your room as the cookie–the final product. Each item you include, HAS to mix well with the other items. Otherwise, it would be like trying to put a brick in a washing machine, that just wont work. Pillows and rugs are the best ways to spice up some color in your space. The best part is that they can be easily changed when you have a new favorite color;) Use complimentary colors in any art or throw pillows you wish to add. Just keep in mind, blend it for the best results.

On that same token, mix old items with new ones! It will give you a great eclectic feel. Don’t be afraid to mix materials either. Right now, a TON of people are using woods and metals and they look phenomenal!

4) HAVE FUN!

Oh sorry…we didn’t mean to yell that, but its important! Have fun and fill your space with things you love. Whether or not it comes out COMPLETELY perfectly wont matter. Kinda like your spouse or significant other. That person is probably nowhere near perfect (insert concerns in the comments section) but you STILL love them:) Your space is that same way. As long as YOU love it and make it a space you can enjoy with others, that’s all that really matters. Our biggest recommendation for you, is to put on some music, shake your booty and stop caring what the world thinks of your space. Care about what YOU and YOUR LOVED ONES think of your space, because THEY are your world.

Until next time friends.

Our First Post

YAY! We are going to blog now too so that you can all get to know us better!
…wait…we aren’t sure if that’s good or bad;)

First, we would love to say a HUGE THANK YOU to our loyal following. A few years ago, times were tougher and winter seemed to last 4 weeks longer than they should have. It was YOU ALL who kept us here through telling your friends about us, sharing posts, and coming in the store. We are so thankful to serve you all to the best of our ability every day. We wake up feeling gratitude toward you all, and that’s a very special thing to us.

Second, we are going to be a little more transparent here so you can also get to know us as PEOPLE:) We plan to share our lives more, and also design tips, product features and whatever else we can come up with.

That’ll do it for now!
We look forward to the future.
See you soon:)
